About Boolian


About the name, what we do, how to find us....

The Facts: 

- Boolian is an alternative spelling - aka a misspelling - of Boolean.

- George Boole (1815 - 1864) was an English mathematician and philosopher, and inventor of Boolean algebra, which is the basis of all modern computer arithmetic. Boole is regarded as one of the founders of the field of computer science.

- Boolian search is a way of searching for web information that is based upon Boolean logic, where elements each contain only two possible values, such as "true" and "false", "yes" and "no", "on" and "off", or "1" and "0". In Search query strings, these values are represented by "+" ("and), "-"("and not") and "or" to suggest alternative keywords. Using Boolean search enables searchers to refine their search.

- For years before computers were invented, librarians used the Boolean system to search for books using their card system.

So why Boolian and not Boolean?

Well, for a start, there are quite a few computer, science and engineering-based businesses who have Boolean as their company name. And in any case, misspellings are very important in search, as any Search marketer will tell you!

Why was Boolian conceived?
